Myanmar: Around 500 Thai freight trucks are stranded at the Second Thailand–Myanmar Friendship Bridge after Myanmar’s government closed the bridge and the border to Thai import traffic. The decision followed the arrest of senior military and civilian officials by Myanmar’s military authorities, reportedly over allowing freight trucks to cross the Tha Lawin River bridge in Pa-an.

According to local reporting, the closure is expected to last about two weeks, leaving hundreds of Thai trucks stuck in Mae Sot and unable to deliver goods into Myanmar.

Citing Myanmar media, approximately 500 Thai trucks have been halted at the border following the arrests, which were made without an official explanation. As a result, the crossing has been temporarily closed, preventing Thai vehicles from proceeding.

Despite the halt on Thai imports via Friendship Bridge No. 2, exports from Myanmar into Thailand continue as normal—including garlic, chilies, beans, rice, vegetables, meat, and fish. It remains unclear how long the closure will remain in effect. Many Thai companies and traders have voiced concerns over the economic impact of the ongoing border shutdown.
